Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs

Faculty in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology are affiliated with interdisciplinary programs in Genetics , Neuroscience and Molecular Medicine.  Students from these programs have the opportunity to conduct their dissertation research with a Department faculty member. Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Immunology

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Immunology at The University of Iowa was organized in 1993 as a group to bring together faculty from five departments that share a common interest in teaching students and performing research in Immunobiology. Encompassing the disciplines of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and genetics, immunology sits at the intersection of these important basic sciences with clinical medicine.

Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

The University of Iowa Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) provides a combined MD/PhD degree that integrates graduate research training with clinical studies. Students admitted to the MSTP program have the opportunity to conduct their dissertation research with a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology.

Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (CBB)

As a graduate student in the Department of Microbiology, you are eligible to apply for a fellowship from the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (CBB). The CBB is not affiliated with one department within The University of Iowa, but is based on contributions of more than 50 faculty members from eight departments: Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry, Microbiology, and Pharmacology.
