Li Wu

Dr. Li Wu, Chair and DEO of Microbiology and Immunology, has received a grant from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. The grant, entitled “Exploring m6A RNA modification in HIV-associated cancers in aging populations” is a supplement to the Cancer Center Support Grant.

Project Narrative: Individuals living with HIV (PWH) who are 50 years or older have a higher rate of cancer and poorer outcomes compared to those without HIV. To enhance the treatment and health of older PWH, it is crucial to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms through which HIV and aging contribute to cancer development. This interdisciplinary research will use immune cells from older PWH to investigate how HIV-associated cancers and aging impact gene expression and innate immunity.
